Summit that's hard to swallow
Just two days ago, Gordon Brown was urging us all to stop wasting food and combat rising prices and a global shortage of provisions.
But yesterday the Prime Minister and other world leaders sat down to an 18-course gastronomic extravaganza at a G8 summit in Japan, which is focusing on the food crisis.
The dinner, and a six-course lunch, at the summit of leading industrialised nations on the island of Hokkaido, included delicacies such as caviar, milkfed lamb, sea urchin and tuna, with champagne and wines flown in from Europe and the U.S.

Tue, July 8, 2008 - 3:02 PMIs this news to anyone?
Are there people here that think the G8 summits are held for us, the people?
They do this stuff on purpose, and masturbate thinking about it.
Next year, if Obama is prez, do you think he'll cancel his seat and cause a stir?

Re: World Food Crisis Discussed Over 18 Course Banquet
Tue, July 8, 2008 - 3:25 PMThis is so egregious that it actually IS news, and i think that's a very good thing. It is not the fault, IMO, of any of the attendants, who on their own are all but powerless to buck the system. Japan is the host country, and is showing off in a way that it thought would win praise, but is unexpectedly drawing criticism. The scale of this is news to me i have to admit. I did not think they were eating corn and beans, but i the degree of opulence here from supposedly democratic nations i think most people would think is verybad form at best, and i hope that more than just a few are shocked, as i am. It's a clear example of a totally bankrupt value system and an unforgivable waste of taxpayers money. I think they've likely been getting away with this sort of thing without criticism for a long time, and i think that it is time it stopped. I hope that this story really takes off, and i think it might, and that it serves to really embarrass the japanese and the guests. I sincerely and strongly hope that we evolve enough as a species that the global culture changes in such a way that ANYBODY would be ashamed to attend such an event, under any circumstances. I'm a vegetarian, but it isn't just the damned milk fed lamb that's got my goat.

G8 spouses feed the poor!!!!!!
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 10:02 PM"UN flew in starving African kids to be part of staged 'feeding exhibit' for G8 wives on camera"
Translated from Swedish articles:
"...UNITED NATIONS, July 7 -- During the upcoming G-8 meeting in Italy, the UN World Food Program is flying school children from Ghana to Rome for a "simulated food distribution" display for the spouses of G-8 representatives. WFP has ordered staff not involved in the display to not come to work that day. They will, however, received "special leave with full pay."
World Food Program is the UN agency criticized ... .when showing the wives of the world's leading politicians how they worked was flown poor children from Ghana to Rome to be fed with porridge. It was on 10 July as Sarah Brown, Margarita Barroso and several other wives of top politicians of the G8 countries were invited to the WFP, World Food Program, based in Rome.
WFP wanted to show the ladies what great work the organization does in the world. Therefore, was flown to a group of poor schoolchildren from Ghana to Rome especially for the event. The children would tell me how WFP is helping them. In the tents next to the swimming pool staff were presidential wives the opportunity to invite the children in the soy maize porridge WFP usually give starving. At the same time called on the majority of the agency's 1200 employees to stay home that day...."

Gordon Brown's wife mentions the "feeding event" in her blog:
sarahbrowng8.wordpress.com/2009...rome/
"....Am out early to head back to Rome to the Headquarters of the World Food Programme for a G8 spouses event on Women Saving Lives. We are met by the Executive Director Josette Sheeran who presents each of us with a red plastic feeding cup – the cup filled with food on their emergency feeding programmes at the cost of just over ₤1 a week. Many spouses are here: from Canada, EU, Japan, India, and South Africa – and today we are joined by those from Nigeria and South Korea. A group of school children from Ghana sing and talk about their experience of WFP feeding programmes, and we hear more about the links to local agriculture and building up community sustainability....."

Africa has been carefully denigrated by the Oxford British while their own image is carefully burnished and enhanced around the world.
When did Britain itself become a democracy ?
The British have been at war for centuries.
Can any savagery in Africa be equal the destruction caused by the British or the USA?
A major proportion of the politicians who made Africa notorious for corruption after some states obtained Independence from the British were selected by the British themselves, even before they obtained independence.
These African politicians and leaders proved to be corupt. Why were these people brought in by the British? The answer is that the British needed people they could control. So they selected crooks whom they knew they could control after Independence. Same thing the US did for a while in Central and So. America
The State of Israel would not exist inside Palestinian lands if the British and the US would not allow it.
most of what has the world fucked has to do with how the British, and now the USA, deals with the rest world ...

Well, if the axis powers had won wwII, they would have been a lot worse. The soviet union wasn't too sporty either, and china and india both had their problems before they ever met with many europeans. Africa has been hobbled by belief in witchcraft, tribal warfare, slavery and a lot of really funky goings on also since way before europeans. Not to absolve the europeans or usa!!!! Our conduct in south and central america and the phillipines really totally shockingly greedy, racist and violent.
What i'm saying is that these are our common problems as humans, plenty of blame to go around, our collective karma if you will. It is not usa against ....whoever, it is no longer a nationalistic thing, but the progressives of the world linking up and moving us out of this hellzone that our fears, ignorance and tribal prejudices have kept us in for so long. -

Re: G8 spouses feed the poor!!!!!!
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 2:31 AMindeed racism and abuse are standard human behaviour patterns and europeans have been (arguably?) better at it in more contemporary global terms...
any school playground will show that people will use race or any other kind of difference in sick power games...
the only way racism subsides is to the degree that the power shifts towards balance within an integrated system...
even then where issues of race or creed subside people will move onto the next phase of corruption and discrimination...
so much so they aren't even aware of it because their denial mechanisms are so deeply engrained...
the pack of mad dogs never understands they're mad dogs unless they're shamed and constrained...
but there is obama as a note of optimism and as the global power balance shifts maybe the racial humiliation stuff will lessen...

for the Americans and British Imperialist, yes ..... both world wars had to do with the explotation Africa, the greed of Europe for Power and Gold .... most of the wealthy European/US elite can care less for wellbeing of 3rd world people .... in fact, this power elite would like to exterminate most of the people of color of the world so they can use their land and resourses ... is that to hard to see ?

Re: G8 spouses feed the poor!!!!!!
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 7:27 AMNot the way i see it oba, but one way to see it. The japanese and germans were not trying to liberate africa. Their treatment of conquered areas like china and korea were really really bad, and the italians were part of the axis and look what they did in etheopia!
It is not just elites who have not given a damn about the welfare of people in africa or pretty much anywhere distant or foreign, it has been a persistent and widespread source of misery.
Selfishness and indifference are the problem, but i don't think it accurate to blame it on the elite. It is way more widespread and present in everyone i know to one degree or another. -

If the British had lost the war (they were badly fucked by the Germans) Israel would not exist as we know it now, that would have changed the whole balance of power right there .... but truly ... who knows for sure if we are realy better of now
<<The japanese and germans were not trying to liberate africa.
nop ... these countries also were also ruled by cruel rasist people that went after power and gold ....
<< Selfishness and indifference are the problem, but i don't think it accurate to blame it on the elite.>>
no my friend ...
thousands of peole marched againts wars in America, their elected gov ignored them in favour of the corporate rich elite hungry for oil that it lays on others peole lands, todays other gold ..... people all over the world are crying for justice, but the elites are downpressing them ... we live in a police state .... police often do what they want regardles of what the constitution says .... who pays the police ?
It is an elite of elites the ones that realy rule world goverments, i know you dont agree, but that is my view ... Ignorance keeps people selfishness and indifferent ..... the elites have done well in fracturing the power of the people .... get 10 on more peole in the street to march and you will find 100 cops near ....
Is not blame, is a simple observation of reality which many others share

as much as the brits like to gloat when they get the rare opportunity to actually beat germany at anything, World war 2 wasn't a britain v germany kind of thing. It was the allies vs the nazis, japs and the wops. Although the bulk of the allies were considered part of the british commonwealth - UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and India - it was also the US, Poland, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and USSR. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: G8 spouses feed the poor!!!!!!
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 6:32 PMdid you look at the roots ?
"The First World War has sometimes been labelled, with reason, "a family affair". This is derived from the reality that many of the European monarchies - many of which fell during the war (including those of Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary) - were inter-related.
The British monarch George V's predecessor, Edward VII, was the German Kaiser's uncle and, via his wife's sister, uncle of the Russian Tsar as well. His niece, Alexandra, was the Tsar's wife. Edward's daughter, Maud, was the Norwegian Queen, and his niece, Ena, Queen of Spain; Marie, a further niece, was to become Queen of Romania.
Despite these familial relations - nine Kings attended Edward's funeral - European politics was all about power and influence, of protection and encirclement. Thus the tangled web of alliances which sprung up in the wake of the rise of the newly united German Empire in 1871. "
"It is also suggested that Germany would have backed away from war had Britain declared her intentions sooner. Believing that Britain would stay out of the coming conflict, and would limit herself to diplomatic protests - after all, Britain was under no strict military obligation to France - Germany, and Austria-Hungary, proceeded under the belief that war would be fought solely with France and Russia.
The British Government, and its Foreign Minister, Sir Edward Grey, attempted to mediate throughout July, reserving at all times its right to remain aloof from the dispute. It was only as the war began that the British position solidified into support for, ostensibly, Belgium."
WW1 ... "the war to stop all wars" ... what a joke !

Tue, October 27, 2009 - 9:04 AMpp: "...Selfishness and indifference are the problem, but i don't think it accurate to blame it on the elite. It is way more widespread and present in everyone i know to one degree or another...."
>>> The difference between the selfishness of the poor and the selfishness by the elites is in:
a: The poor want to feed their kids, give them clothes, health and shelter - so their selfishness is through 'survival mode' - not the bottomless greed as is the case with the elites
b: The selfishness of the poor only has a marginal impact upon others, since the poor are powerless and resourceless, in contrast, the workings of the elite affect millions since the pyramid structure of power grants those at the top almost superhuman control over the lives of the many below. Like moving their business elsewhere and 'laying off' millions of hard working, loyal employees...
Yes, it is true that if given the chance most people wouldn't mind a spot at the top, and therefore it is not so much humans but the system itself that is to blame, and of course those who are aware of the system's functioning and yet still keep defending it. That would be the elites though. -
