With consideration and dismay I suggest that Orpheus be warned once again to limit the number of posts or be removed from membership due to his constant disregard for serious pursuit of thread content. He takes a left turn consistently, leading others off topic or into nonsense. Is this the pattern that the majority here wish to endure. Turning any subject into a joke is not my definition of intelligence. And rapid and profuse comebacks does nothing to build thoughtful pursuit of thread content.
And Chonti...either you are one of his shadow alts or you just love feeding trolls. Your stimulating and stroking his nonsense is not helpful to this tribe.
That said...you both have good energy to add to this tribe if you would just limit entries or begin your own threads instead of pissing on others.
is this asking too much? Does smoking pot dull your senses beyond control?
I know, you now most likely harbor resentful thoughts toward me for this speaking of my heart. I'll live with it in order to offer some hope that this tribe can be something to be proud of and worth participating in for all the members who find value here.
Start stream of consciousness tribe and babble on if you wish, but allow us our space for semi - serious pursuit and exploration of wonders here.
Love ya on the being level but sick of you on another.......................with all due respect to the tribe members and mod........................e

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 11:10 AMI have already warned Orpheus that any post of his that contains ANY personal insult, ridicule, jabs, needling, putdown, trolling, etc. that I see may be deleted, and he seems to have cleaned up his act a bit in that respect.
I also told him that if I got many more complaints about him, he would be banned.
Now, what emptycloud is talking about here is not the personal insults and putdowns, but rather derailing threads away from the topic -- something which he certainly does but which is harder to quantify than insults and putdowns.
(But I don't consider the Youtube links he posts as derailing threads because they are easy to ignore and practically never lead to any side discussions.)
So -- there are several possible responses.
One possibility would be what I have suggested before: that the person who starts a thread has the privilege of asking that off-topic, derailing posts be removed. (PM me about it, I might not see the request if it is just in the thread.) I would look at the posts in question, and if the problem is that the posts disagree with the thread-starter, but are otherwise on-topic, they would be left up -- but if the posts really are derailing the discussion away from what the thread-starter wanted to discuss, then I would follow the thread-starter's wishes. I believe that thread-starters should have the ability to make sure their thread stays on the topic they wanted to discuss, and that trolls should not have the power to derail any discussion they want to.
Second possibility would be to let Orpheus have a thread of his very own in which he could post whatever he wanted, and those who enjoy his posts could interact with him there.
Third possibility would be removal if there is a consensus for that among enough members (especially among the serious contributors here). That possibility could be discussed here in this thread.
The best solution of all, I think -- everyone including Orpheus himself might be happier if he started his own tribe where he could post whatever he wanted, and those who enjoy his style of posting could join him there.
But that would be up to him. -

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 11:55 AMafter many days of disappearing posts I finally inquired of gayle as to why my witty retorts to insults were getting deleted as I was curious as to what protocol she was applying... hahaha
it was only then that she responded by saying that any of my posts that contained "ANY personal insult, ridicule, jabs, needling, putdown, trolling, etc." was being deleted and I told her that I thought in that case she couldn't of read any of the posts she deleted and asked if she had actually kept any of them to check - especially in the context of the insulting posts they were responding to... hahaha
because of course we all know who really does all the insulting and complaining and accusations of trolling... hahaha
anyway I was then told that if I didn't like it I could get out... hahaha
nevertheless since then she seems to have refrained from the gratuitous deletions so I am assuming she is actually reading the stuff in context and has learnt to control irrational urges to delete posts for the hell of it... hahaha
now for the rest of it we enter into the subjective mob stuff that got hoopes undemocratically removed as moderator and an unelected moderator installed...
so once we enter that domain there's no point in reasoning any further...
the mob will do what the mob will do...
as ever that is the way of the evil worms... hahaha

Thu, October 8, 2009 - 12:22 PMO...I am not a mob...I do not want to see members ousted, deleted or censored. I do not ask that you support or agree with my choice of relevant posts. And I do not consider this a laughing matter (re:hahaha) the middle way works just fine for me...Can you not see that you are occasionally out of line and over the top. This is not respect of other members, it is pure ego feeding. Look at me, I am witty, I am far out, I am stoned and can do anything I want. Please grow healthily from this public shout out. I mean you no harm and don't think any mob is out there to point at. It is reflection of your own behavior and it's accompanying, heartfelt response.
P.s. I've smoked many varieties of 'it" for 40 years and that plant spirit has led me to compassion and respect for others so I know the goofy part, it ain't just the weed. It comes down to matters of heart my other...............

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 12:51 PMsorry but I do consider it a laughing matter most of the time...
and I do think that your behaviour is yet another attempt at inciting mob rule...
your accusation of my being OTT is your opinion and it may be shared by others but not by me...
I think I've got valid points to make and/or I enjoy participating in some fun banter...
so maybe you should try and learn to be less petulant...
and maybe excessive use of pot or any other "psychoactive" isn't entirely benign so you need to keep an eye on it... hahaha
personally I've been pretty much off any and all substance "abuse" for about 7 years apart from coffee of course...
but that's likely to change soon because I'm kinda bored so it might be nice to have a toke if some pot showed up...
but then again...
I can't afford to buy any so maybe I'll just stay bored and keep missing out on the spaceships... ;)

Thu, October 8, 2009 - 1:52 PMI feel you add to this tribe O...
You make good points in your latest response to me, and I support many of your positions. Threads can take many turns and still be constructive, and there is no established or defined road map. Laughing is good medicine, especially in these stressful times. Excessive abuse of anything is dangerous... being ott has it's place...and is sporadic not continuous. I never claimed you had no valid points.
but you dance around respect for others like it is invisible. I can only assume you feel we don't deserve it. Your call there ...you'll reap what you sow.
This is NOT a rag on O thread... you chose to trounce my thread on Mayan civilization and buried the subject with the help of Chonti. I don't appreciate it and am saying so.
This is a simple request for consideration of others. You don't have to agree or co operate, what you do reflects on you alone. As does my behavior on me. I shall take your advice and try less petulance, but many good friends have left due to such behavior and I am all for attracting not shedding good minds. I welcome help in personal growth. Thanks for the input.
Will you take mine and consider respect to others efforts before burying their efforts alive?
I do love humor and have offered it here many times but not multiple cascading entries in someone else's serious thread. I am not a rules and regs guy but group etiquette is possible with a small effort. There is a button to select which offers your own thread anytime...
I'll just drop it and hope for the best and accept what be-comes............... -

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 2:16 PMwe didn't dump on your thread...
I made my usual silly but open ended aside because I feel that the "maya" are often co-opted as an example of something or other for a lot of people's pet theories...
this doesn't mean they aren't true...
but it's mostly speculation and open to debate...
maybe overpopulation or corruption or disease or climate change or bad agricultural techniques or war or spaceships were responsible for the decline of their empire...
I don't know so I am quite prepared to throw in some silly ideas because tangentially maybe they aren't that silly...
it certainly may appear irreverent but reverent gravitas isn't really a great discussion mode...
but of course silliness might veer off into banter...
but I experience that as a positive... hahaha
it's about as much fun as I get... hahaha
and more than I can afford... waaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! -

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 1:54 PMAnother option would be to ask tribe for the freaking "hide/ignore" function already.... Are they done stabilizing it yet? Can they move on to implementing features desired by the member base? A good feature would be to give thread makers the option to move off-topic posts to a back-room of sorts... kinda like deleting, but if people are curious they can still go and have a look... Tribe just doesn't give us enough new features... god knows how long members have asked for things like this. Perhaps it's merely being kept afloat until we all move on rather than a quick execution?
Having said that, I'm not sure if I'd put Orph or Chontler on *ignore* if given the choice... Sometimes I follow a conversation that ends at a can of worms after a minute of wasting my time, yet sometimes it ends at a pot of humorous gold...
Banning Orpheus to a tribe of his own sounds rather extreme... brings up a vision of a teletubby in a boat being pushed away towards the open ocean... -

Thu, October 8, 2009 - 2:01 PMI find orpheus's response including the vids to be usually to-the-point in a loki trickster kind of way and frequently refreshing from the too-deadly-serious pose that any of us can get into from time to time.
As a teacher I enjoyed the class clowns who found ways--as he has--of blowing the wind out of overfilled sails. It's too easy taking the mob approach (and most who do are in denial that that's what they're doing).
With Gayle's moderation this tribe is the best it's been in the several years I've been in it: the richness of topics, the interaction of responses, the control of truly negative trolling make it great. My hope is that we can chill a bit and maybe learn something from the community experience we're having, instead of making a Rodney King over it.

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 2:02 PMlook elo...
if you consider the question as to whether you and your family were immigrants on welfare as an insult that is your issue not mine...
I kinda have what one might regard as a "marxist materialist" take on how the socio-eco may affect people's perspectives and prospects so I am interested in what people are in terms of background and situation not in order to put them down but simply to get a clearer picture of what's going on etc...
your reactive response to the question raised the issue of racism and no slight bureaucratic inconvenience aswell as notions of financial merit that I won't go into here or anywhere else unless it becomes a topic of open mature discussion that doesn't embarass anyone...

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 12:44 AMok orpheus, it was all about intent with that comment for me, and i'll take you to your word that the intent wasnt to try and put me or my family down if thats what you say now. Problem is at the time it sounded a lot more like a cheap dig, than a genuine question, but maybe i misunderstood.
maybe it was to some extent a language thing, the way you said it sounded like that to me.
bedouin said it sounded like it was obviously meant as an insult to him too, but maybe just because it sounded like that to us, maybe doesnt mean that was your intent. If you say now that wasnt your intention, ill belive you and take your word.
I propbably reacted so angrily because a few weeks ago id just finished a one week battle with someone well known on politics tribe who was making consitant sexual attacks on my wife because they found out i was a member of the polyamory tribe. They got kicked out of the tribe for it eventualy, but they went about as far as they could for days before in terms of making cheap and nasty sexual insults at her of the most graphic kind possible. It was a bit ridiculous becase its me that has freedom in the realtionship not her anyway. The reason the guy was doing it is because hes very right wing, not far of Glenn Beck in some ways, yet he was well known on Politics tribe, and over the last year i think ive become a well know voice there and my poltics are very liberal, and ive often cut his arguments to bits, im sure to his anoyance. When he spoted the polyamory thing, and hes seen my wifes picture in my profile, i guess the thought he had found a weak spot that he could attack. .
Not that im a sexual prude, but hey, its something else when someoen is attacking your wife like that. And then when you made that comment, i thought what is it with people on tribe that they want to bring my family into things and attack them.
I think it might have just came out that way because your often flippant with your use of lanaguage. And maybe some of it is a languge difference in the way the English speak and the way the French speak.
Anyway, since youve given this explanation ill accept it and declare peace with you now, lol.
In terms of the subject at hand, i think a little light relif in this tribe from orpheus is sometimes a good thing.
To me personaly, id say its a matter of quantitty, If you start flooding out threads Orpheus then thats probably going to piss people off, but you know, if you dont go over the top i think your humour is a contribution often, and even when your being really cynical maybe its a counterbalance to people like me who are often very focused on a postive agenda to get them see the opposite side of the coin and hence force us to be realistic.
As to things like youtube clips, nothing wrong with that, i use them myself and music and visuals can often say things words cant.
If Orpheus is on the flippant humours side, surely its his right to choose his style ? Again i just think, dont go to the lengthens of flooding, like 3 posts for every other 1 people make might be a bit too much !
thats my pennies worth on the subject.
and ive always thought your icon was cool anyway, so there you go. -

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 1:24 AMelo this is the internet so the words were typed for all to see and should be there if you want to check unless they've been deleted...
I am assuming that english isn't your first language so that might go some way to your not understanding stuff...
as for bedouin also thinking the question was an insult well once again I'd say that is his issue and not mine...
maybe you guys could work on your demons together...?
I really don't want to know any more about your personal/sexual issues because I think I might find them distasteful and I don't want to express judgement...
unless you really want to go there and debate your private life in public here...
as for flooding threads...
well that would happen a bit less if I weren't being targeted so often...
and I pretty much see it as positive participation...
and obviously if it comes to a word count...
well I ain't one of those that tends towards systematic verbosity whilst reposting vast tracts of cut and paste etc...
so I'd like to end this little session of replies with "judge not lest ye be judged"...
and I suggest that we cycle this "troll control" around to examining other members of this tribe and putting their behaviours under scrutiny...

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 2:29 AMi have nothing to hide about my personal life, i don’t know what your trying to imply, you seem by nature to want to attack. when i say the freedom is on my side only, that’s by my wife’s choice not mine.
I was bringing up the subject as it was something else that someone has attacked my family for on tribe, and the person has been permanently banned from Politics tribe for doing that now.
I certainly don’t see being polyamorous is either anything to hide or distasteful. Are you trying to imply it is ? I don’t mind discussing polyamory. There is nothing there to hide. What actually annoys polyamorous people is this feeling monogamous people try and project that they are the norm and to deviate is wrong (in spite of the fact that most monogamous couples statistically break there vows of monogamy, and that throughout history and cultures, monogamy has been the exception not the rule). I certainly didn’t expect to find such conventional attitudes in 2012 tribe.
JFK in his time had to lie about his lifestyle of having a lover whilst being married. I hope that in this modern age i don’t have to lie about mine.
fact is i don’t think neither me nor Bedouin have any of these demons your talking about, that question you asked me so worded would have been taken as an insult by many, certainly i can say in this country it would have been, i think the word immigrant has slightly less negative connotations in America than it has in the UK though i could be wrong. Try it now, put it to the test, join any other tribe right now, and ask someone flat out the same question with the same words you asked me. See if they take that as an insult or not ?
but if you say it wasn’t intended as such, ill take your word for it. It seems petty to argue the point.
as to you being attacked in this tribe, i cant comment much because i haven’t been using it that much for about 8 months. Im feeling like a change from politics and might start using this tribe more though. Untill you made that comment, i certainly hadn’t attacked you. -

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 2:57 AMyup I find polyamory distasteful...
and I don't particularly want to talk about your sex life...
it's generally taken for granted in france that guys will take mistresses...
and wifeswapping parties are socially acceptable for political "insertion"...
and members of the government taking trips to south east asia to sleep with little boys is cool...
after all france is where roman polanski found sanctuary after raping a minor...
if you can afford sex it's your choice and it's cool...
but I find it distasteful...
like doggies humping your leg...
and...
immigrant–noun
1. a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence.
so if anybody finds that word insulting it's likely it's because they are in a racist/xenophobic paradigm... -
-
Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 3:15 AMyou find sex distasteful ? Well that’s your choice i guess.
me saying im polyamorous is not me really discussing my sex life.
But i take note of your prejudices. Fine, you have a right to them i guess.
i find it pathetic though how you try and equate polyamory with raping a minor and paedophile in South East Asia, maybe you want to get a job on Fox news working with Glenn Beck ?
And then your the one who sounds so sexually frustrated a lot of the time, so maybe that’s the explanation. They do say don’t they repression leads to such convoluted and distorted perspectives.
Like priest who preach to others about there lives, as if they are morally superior. Maybe you see yourself as a kind of telitubie priest Orpehus, preaching to others about there private lives whilst being your unhappy with your own ?
-
-
Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 3:37 AMI don't have a private life and pretty much never have...
I also don't have a job and pretty much never have had...
and I also don't have any pot or alcohol or crack around the place...
I wasn't equating any sexual preferences with any other but simply pointing out that france has a liberal attitude to sex...
if you want to proclaim polyamory whilst disowning other sexual practices that is your prejudices at work and not (necessarily) mine...
I can't afford to buy and I'm not really into the idea of selling so I'm not in the game...
if you perceive my situation as morally superior and preachy...
well maybe you feel naughty about shagging around but that's your business...
if you would like me to be sexually active and take drugs because it might improve my mood...
well that's very kind of you and I'd appreciate some slim pretty intelligent young ladies around the 23 mark and some pot and what the heck if it's you whose paying send them around with some champagne and coke as I believe they like that stuff and could you pay them for a few weeks as I don't like to rush these things... :)

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 4:33 AMlol, sorry Orpheus maybe i just wasn’t getting your humour before. This post of yours was funny.
You know some woman go for money and power, some woman love humour and intellect, maybe your just not focusing your talents on the right kind of lady, and if your stuck in a village somewhere there not goanna be knocking on your door are they ?
One thing is, i sure do i love French woman, if I'm flush next year i might just take you up on your offer, i like France anyway. Prefer it to England in some ways, the southern English can be too uptight and the Northern English too like rednecks. French are more cultured. I spent a few months in Paris back in my late 20's and it has good memories for me.
I think you should go to Paris or something, You sound to me like you’ve got into a rut in that village and aren’t happy there. Your clever and your funny, you sound like you could be doing more with yourself. God i love French villages mind, there so rustic and full of charm, id love to live in one with my family myself, must be a great place to bring up kids, better than London, though im in a nice part of town here, but if your young and bored on your own i can imagine that’s very different.
Make a change and i bet the woman would follow. We all go through phases. I told you a bit about what i went through a few years ago on that other thread, im coming out of that now, and things may be quite exciting the next few years for me. You sound like you’ve got yourself a bit stuck yourself, maybe should plan out an escape route ?
Anyway not for me to prey into your personal life, but since we are on an American forum isn’t that the American way ?
France sure does have a liberal attitude on sex, if you ask me France, Spain and Italy are more advanced like that than England, America and other countries. And they generally seem to me happier because of it. More so even the Italians and Spanish who are emotionally more relaxed.
Most of sexual repression was just a power idea by Christianity and governments to make people good little productive units that wouldn’t waste there time on anything other than making the powerful wealthy by working long hours and doing there bit as cogs in the wheel, and producing children to do the same.
Now take Alduous Huxley’s idea in his book "island" of an ideal society being based around nature and tantric sex with spirituality and magic mushrooms central, that seems like a better idea than Victorian England.
Victorians were the worst of course. But while they were preaching fidelity to the working class the Victorian middle class had turned the whole of Covent garden into a giant brothel, that’s not only lying about sexuality which is a natural force, its also driving it underground into the dungeons. Maybe befitting of a society so focused on industrialisation, but hopefully we are growing out of that now.
Now as you say its often equated with money, power and status. A part of that is natural, but part of it is tagged to unnaturally slick and super organised marketing.
I think we are about to experience a second wave of the 60's liberating force of Pluto and Uranus sometime soon anyway, so im expecting quite a lot of change on things like that, i think you can see it has already begun in some areas.
Not that i have all the answers but if there was one thing id want to say to you Orpheus is that thinking positive sometimes wont kill you, it might actually save you ! Give it a go sometime ! seriously. But your funny, and sorry if our lines got a bit twisted the last few days.

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 4:59 AMI lived in paris for 20 years...
people are at it like rabbits there as they were in the north of england and the middle of england and the south of england and as they are in rural france and I expect everywhere else too etc...
I'm a romantic so nothing ever shows up for me except once in a blue moon long count and then I get severely disappointed and disillusioned...
if you want to shag it's best to have money and social insertion and correspond to stereotypes and be predatory and not too fussy and not pose any kind of intellectual threat...
as that is not my condition I don't shag hardly ever...
if I had more money and social prestige I would probably enjoy some shagging if the right girls came along although as I'm kinda past my prime I'd probably have to pay especially as I am romantic so that paying might protect me from any illusions of affection I might lapse into etc...
personally my path has showed me the ugly side of people so that makes me both susceptible and disgusted...
sex and money go on outside my sphere of activity...
and even when I was in those zones I was a never more than a sadass wallflower at their orgies... hahaha
sex might be nice if people were nice but that's never really gonna happen is it...?
but that's just my loser perspective I guess... hahaha

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 5:30 AMsome people are nice orpheus, you jsut have to look for the nice ones.
I agree that sometiems its like a spirtual desert out there, but then that can make the oasis more apealing cant it ?
and some girls are romantic too, maybe they have become a dying breed, but then i feel thats going to come back in fashion. Probably romance of a different kind to what was traditional though.
I do belive in 2012 and i do think this pared down love and romance is a symptom of over materialism, over competativness, over emphais on peoples ego, and power, but i think thats cracking now, and i think we are at a turning point. People during these changes are probably more self absorbed too.
And there are many different people out there, and not all of them have been sunken beneath the material, competative rat race. And dont forget, not everyone wears there heart on there sleves these days, some people keep them pretty hidden. Doesnt mean there not there under the surface.
i can tell that deep down you know your thinking has got into a negative rut yourself, your not the first to do that, i was like that myself before i met my wife, she kind of saved me, she was full of romance, fresh chinese spirt, like something off flying daggers, its like Will said a few weeks ago, your looking for someone to bring you out of your negative vision.
Best person to do that is yourself though. Sorry its me that sounds preachy now, but i dont mean it in a condesending way.

Fri, October 9, 2009 - 6:09 AMjeez little girls can be so damned cute... hahaha
I remember I started a teacher training course once upon a time and the first time I walked into this kiddy classroom with the tiny furniture this little girl came up and hugged my shins with instant innocent affection... hahaha
but then after the cute bit it is usually quickly apparent that kiddies are loonies too and the stress of being a school teacher must be immense...
later when I was doing the real placement in big school the teacher's common room was like entering the cuckoo's nest...
caricatures more outrageous than anything python could of dreamed up...
I dropped out at the first opportunity... hahaha -

Birth control...
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 6:49 AMI awoke early today filled with gratitude for the existence of this 2012 tribe, for it's brilliant and diverse mirrors and for Gayle's steady hand at the tiller. But most particularly for Orpheus, my latest teacher. Thank you all.
Sometimes when I find and post a gem worth sharing, I see it as that little girl on Orphe's leg, innocent and trusting. I want to see her blossom as all of you feed it with your conscious intelligence. High hopes for a great and long life. Then somebody lures her into a corner and turns her to the dark side. I had hopes she would be respected as she grows in this cruel, unpredictable world. I must remember my lessons of parenting, to let go and loosen my grip. She has a life of her own that I can't direct. Thanks Orpheus for the reminder...may you laugh till you drop....none too soon I hope. Please forgive my spotlight of outrage.........love, e -

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 5:31 AMyep French villages are lovely places to bring children up - Aix en Provence is one of the places i grew up. a liberated spot it is, i suppose - i had my first kiss in a haystack in the barn attic :D
i once suggested orpheus go to Paris but he had some reason for staying where he is.
having a studio in Paris would be so cool.
my father invited me to complete my final year of school there, but i naively declined and stayed in my provincial Truman Show neighbourhood by the sea.
i'm lookin for a second job and there looks to be work at a local French restaurant if i like. it's tiny and very sweet! right next-door to a tattoo parlour. yesterday i told my mum getting a tattoo might cheer her up.
last February i took a vow of celibacy that lasted 12 months; after my French gangster boyfriend disappeared one shitty night in Bangkok.
and Clarins is doing wonders upon wonders for my skin.. though i'm not using Eau Dynamisante anymore - i gave it to my mum and she stuck it in the fridge, she always stores her perfumes there.. remember Issey Miyake bein a staple in the door when i was a girl - however lush it is.. yeah it reminds me of catching planes. maybe even being an air hostess.
ta geuel, tu con.
yeah viva la France!!!!!

well, i lived in London for a long time, and i know how cities can do that to people, but Orpehus, its not real, trust me, you have to break those darkened glasses that got all smoged up.
I think what you need Oprheus is to find a romantic girl, romantic like yourself, and have a few kids, give you something to believe in again. -

destiny meant he isnt a breeder, Paris was hard on him for 20 years you see, i can understand that, city life can be harsh for romantic sprits.
But if our teletubbie is saying destiny has meant he isnt to be a breeder, i can tell that there is a hint of he maybe would have liked to breed for children and give them teletubbies. Beautiful.
no, the plan for orepheus is simple now. Its just a matter of whether he will implent it. We must give him time to warm to the idea.

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 8:18 PMPeople like Orpheus were once in the employ of Kings...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jester
"In societies where freedom of speech was not recognized as a right, the court jester—precisely because anything he said was by definition 'a jest' and 'the uttering of a fool'—could speak frankly on controversial issues in a way in which anyone else would have been severely punished for. Monarchs understood the usefulness of having such a person at their side. Still, even the jester was not entirely immune from punishment, and he needed to walk a thin line and exercise careful judgment in how far he might go - which required him to be far from a fool, in the modern sense." -

Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 8:35 PMIgnoring trolls is a reflex that comes with time and practice. The posts of orpheus et.al. are just background noise for me now. Re: Troll control
Thu, October 8, 2009 - 11:52 PM"Ignoring trolls is a reflex that comes with time and practice."
so these insults are commonplace and tell me a lot about the accusers and also the regime their minority has tried to set up...
ie snide anti-intellectual insults from people who can't allow others to be and think for themselves...
usually whilst making the dullest most ludicrous assertions as if they were credible...
and then throwing in extra insinuated insults "like the din of a kindergarten class"...
well I'm going to point this stuff out if and when I can be bothered... hahaha
oh look there goes one now...

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 3:23 AMto me, a troll is someone who posts nonsensically and obliviously. there have really only been a couple in this tribe's history (since i've been a member).
i think when someone interacts with others, thereby creating reciprocity of some sort, they become a valuable member!
to call someone a troll because they are controversial or contrary is so obnoxious.
anyway who am i to redefine the term. -

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 3:49 AMwell cali obviously I agree with you that the troll calling is odious...

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 4:37 AMwell hoopes despite his popular support offered to make me mod when the mob of usual suspects started their insurrection stuff again but I refused (even though it might of been funny) and then I guess he handed over to gayle who wanted the job...
so obviously I don't like the idea of being a "child minder" (to paraphrase solari) so I'd probably be an invisible moderator if I had that role forced on me...
my take on it is things are what they are and so whatever people post is a sign of all that is...

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 5:51 AMfunny you should mention that...
although destiny has meant I'm not a breeder I got a bit paternal when little sister monkey appeared for a while... hahaha
but of course I'd have no power over what a child would do and whatever idiocies she'd be getting into...
but I tried my best to instil some kind of rational humanist critique and self confidence in her...
as there are a load of junky kids about I tried to steer her the info way...
so that if she wanted to try shit she should be informed and then in the process work out for herself that maybe she didn't want to go for it...
I also tried to get her to study even though school never did jack for me...
but in the end peer pressure will tell...
from what I can gather now she's all growed up she just wants to hang with her mates and that's probably the best anybody can do in the end...
even if it ends up seeming like a tragic waste etc...
such is life...
of course what she should of done is marry me so she could get a job in a factory and look after me in my old age... :)

Re: Troll control

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 6:11 AM<funny you should mention that... >
ha ha, my instincts are rarely wrong.
You see i have the plan for you now. First, you must learn to believe in life again, then, as if by magic you’ll meet a really romantic girl, and then, the next thing we know, there will be little baby Orpheus’s around that you can get some Telitubies for.
trust me, when its your own kids, they can fill you with passion for life again.
Its also an interesting time to have kids. Under the new Pluto Uranus square coming up, could be troublesome in teenage years though, born under that transit.
But since the world is all goanna be changing for the better once we turn the 2012 corner, maybe that will just add a bit spice to life.

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 4:30 AMThis is the "troll" entry in the urban dictionary. Check the last definition for alternate view. There are a lot of people on this tribe who i think fit the definition, who have a canned point of view that they have no intention of changing and are just into needling other people with it in nefarious ways that they are often unaware of themcellves.
troll 4452 up, 266 down
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument
troll 1751 up, 298 down
One who purposely and deliberately (that purpose usually being self-amusement) starts an argument in a manner which attacks others on a forum without in any way listening to the arguments proposed by his or her peers. He will spark of such an argument via the use of ad hominem attacks (i.e. 'you're nothing but a fanboy' is a popular phrase) with no substance or relevence to back them up as well as straw man arguments, which he uses to simply avoid addressing the essence of the issue.
1a. Noun
One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.
1b. Noun
A person who, on a message forum of some type, attacks and flames other members of the forum for any of a number of reasons such as rank, previous disagreements, sex, status, ect.
A troll usually flames threads without staying on topic, unlike a "Flamer" who flames a thread because he/she disagrees with the content of the thread.
1c. Noun
A member of an internet forum who continually harangues and harasses others. Someone with nothing worthwhile to add to a certain conversation, but rather continually threadjacks or changes the subject, as well as thinks every member of the forum is talking about them and only them. Trolls often go by multiple names to circumvent getting banned.
2a. Noun
Sometimes compared to the Japanese ‘Oni’, a troll is a supernatural creature of Scandinavian folklore, whose race was thought to have carried massive stones into the countryside (although actually the result of glaciers). Lives in hills, mountains, caves, or under bridges. They are stupid, large, brutish, ...
Troll 573 up, 366 down
One of many unsung internet heroes who are almost entirely misunderstood. Contrary to popular belief, many trolls are actually quite intelligent. Their habitual attacks on forums is usually a result of their awareness of the pretentiousness and excessive self-importance of many forum enthusiasts. As much as people may hate trolls, they are highly effective - their actions bring much of the stupidity of other forum users out into the great wide open.
Man, that troll really owned those dumb forum users who take themselves too damn seriously.

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 12:02 AMThere are three basic ways to talk to complete idiots.
The first is to assail them with facts, truths, scientific data, the commonsensical obviousness of it all. You do this in the very reasonable expectation that it will nudge them away from the ledge of their more ridiculous and paranoid misconceptions because, well, they're facts, after all, and who can dispute those?
Why, idiots can, that's who. It is exactly this sort of logical, levelheaded appeal to reason and mental acuity that's doomed to fail, simply because in the idiotosphere, facts are lies and truth is always dubious, whereas hysteria and alarmism resulting in mysterious undercarriage rashes are the only things to be relied upon.
Examples? Endless. You may, for instance, attempt to explain evolution to an extreme fundamentalist Christian. You may offer up carbon dating, the fossil record, glaciers, any one of 10,000 irrefutable proofs. You may even dare to talk about the Bible as the clever, completely manufactured, man-made piece of heavily politicized, massively edited, literary myth-making it so very much is, using all sorts of sound academic evidence and historical record.
You are, of course, insane beyond belief to try this, but sometimes you just can't help it. To the educated mind, it seems inconceivable that millions of people will choose rabid ignorance and childish fantasy over, say, a polar bear. Permafrost. Rocks. Nag Hammadi. But they will, and they do. Faced with this mountain of factual obviousness, the bewildered fundamentalist will merely leap back as if you just jabbed him with a flaming homosexual cattle prod, and then fall into a swoon about how neat it is that angels can fly.
But it's not just the fundamentalists. This Rule of Idiocy also explains why, when you show certain jumpy, conservative Americans the irrefutable facts about, say, skyrocketing health care costs that are draining their bank accounts, and then show how Obama's rather modest overhaul is meant to save members of all ages and genders and party affiliations a significant amount of money while providing basic insurance for their family, they, too, will scream and kick like a child made to eat a single bite of broccoli.
Remember, facts do not matter. The actual Obama plan itself does not matter. Fear of change, fear of the "Other," fear of the scary black socialist president, fear that yet another important shift is taking place that they cannot understand and which therefore makes them thrash around like a trapped animal? This is all that matters.
This is why, even when you whip out, say, a fresh article by the goodly old Washington Post -- not exactly a bastion of lopsided liberalthink -- one that breaks down the rather brutal truth about the real cost of health care in this country, it will likely be hurled back in your face as an obvious piece of liberal propaganda. Go ahead, try it. Or better yet, don't.
Option two is to try to speak their language, dumb yourself down, engage on the idiot's level as you try to figure out how their minds work -- or more accurately, don't work -- so you can better empathize and find a shred of common ground and maybe, just maybe, inch the human experiment forward.
This is, as you already sense, a dangerous trap, pure intellectual quicksand. It almost never works, and just makes you feel gross and slimy. Nevertheless, plenty of shrewd political strategists believe that the best way for Obama and the Dems to get their message across regarding everything from health care reform to new environmental regulation, would be to steal a page from the Glenn Beck/Karl Rove/sociopath's playbook, and start getting stupid.
It's all about the bogus catchphrases, the sound bites, the emotional punches-to-the-gut. Death panels! Rationing! Fetus farms! Puppy shredders! Commie medicine! Gay apocalypse! Forced vaccinations! Exposed nipples during prime-time! Let one of these inane, completely wrong but oh-so-haunting verbal ticks bite into the below-average American brainstem, and watch your cause bleed all over the headlines.
The big snag here is that the Dems, unlike the Republican Party, aren't really beholden to a radical, mal-educated base of fundamentalist crazies to keep them afloat. Truly, the political success of the liberal agenda does not depend on the irrational, Bible-crazed "value voter" who's terrified of gays, believes astronomy is a hoax and thinks Jesus spoke perfect English and really liked giving hugs.
In other words, there really is little point in the liberals adopting this strategy, save for the fact that the major media eats it up and it might serve to counterbalance some of the more ridiculous conservative catchphrases. What's more, it could also give the whiny, bickering Dems something slightly cohesive to rally around -- because the truth is, the Democratic Party isn't all that bright, either.
And now we come to option three, easily the finest and most successful approach of all. Alas, it also remains the most difficult to pull off. No one is exactly sure why.
The absolute best way to speak to complete idiots is, of course, not to speak to them at all.
That is, you work around them, ignore them completely, disregard the rants and the spittle and the misspelled protest signs and the fervent prayers for apocalypse on Fox News. Complete refusal to take the fringe nutballs even the slightest bit seriously is the only way to make true progress.
This also happens to be the invaluable advice of one Frank Schaeffer, noted author and a former fundamentalist nutball himself, who made a simply superb appearance on Rachel Maddow's show recently, wherein he offered up one of the most articulate, fantastic takedowns of the fundamentalist idiot's mindset in recent history. It's a must-watch. Do it. Do it now.
Now, you may argue that, while Schaeffer may be dead right and also rather deserving of being quoted far and wide, it's also true that calling people stupid is no way to advance the debate, and is itself rather childish and stupid. And you'd be absolutely right.
But you'd also be missing the point. When you ignore the idiots completely, you are not calling them anything at all. You are not trying to advance any sort of argument, because there is no debate taking place. You are simply bypassing the giant pothole of ignorance entirely.
You are not kowtowing to the least educated of your voting bloc, like the GOP is so desparetely fond of doing. You are not trying to give the idiotosphere equal weight in the discussion. As Schaeffer says, "You cannot reorganize village life to suit the village idiot." By employing option three, you are doing the only humane thing left to do: you are letting the idiotosphere eat itself alive.
Do it for the children, won't you?

seems to me that is what most people in USA did when Bush came to power ....
I reason Orpeus is a smart guy that has a plain and boring life therefore he enjoys acting like a TROLL, and that he desereves compasion (we all do)
I consider Chonter a friend, and im guessing he is also bored where he is at ....
Clowns where not the only ones in the King's court and their jokes had to be good ... or else .... i cant say most jokes posted here by Orpheus made me laugh or that inspired to further reasoning ..... to me most of his posts are as distracting from the main subject as comercials on a TV during a documentary ....
but in my view banning him will not acomplish a lot, someone else will take his place .... maybe even, with an anonimous and wicked revenge
to each its own ....

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 8:52 PMMy friend Geo. Re that column Lana and orpheus put up here: How to talk to complete idiotsThree basic options. Choose wisely, lest you go totally insane, By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi
Mark Morford is understandably frustrated. He offers some good suggestions for improving society around idiots but he is missing an important point. Idiots are not receptive to facts and reason because they find them unexciting. This is not a shortcoming particular to idiots --we all suffer from it. We are excitement junkies.
Consider my local school district, shutting down libraries, cutting arts and science programs and discontinuing bus service to save money, but just committed $10 million to resurface football fields. This is not because they are idiots. Football is exciting. Fewer and fewer average people are excited by studying. More and more kids go to school just for the head injuries. Does this make them idiots?
Or how about that moon missile? I went out at 4 this morning to see it impact. Moon was right overhead! I held my hand out but felt nothing. Then I had an educational experience: since the moon is another planet, you'd have to get real close to see any water kicked up by the explosion --which is what NASA did and it's exciting. But couldn't you just send a bucket under the moon to catch moonwater without exploding anything? How dull that would be.
Solution would be to create enthusiasm over a better society, wean us off increasing dependence upon mindless excitement. We're about maxed out anyway. But given the current intellectual climate, who can tell?

Re: Troll control
Sat, October 10, 2009 - 10:44 AMI thought my friend Jason's comment about Geo.'s take on the Mark Morford piece was good:
I think Mark's piece is actually very supportive of Geo's point of view. We're never going to get around to reigniting excitement for knowledge and progress so long as we stay in the ditch slinging mud at the bottom feeders. -

Re: Troll control
Sat, October 10, 2009 - 11:40 AMwell the problem might be what you regard as being "knowledge"...
after thatcher higher education in the uk kinda became business studies with a flavour option...
a recent visit from an oz law grad underlined this cynical idea as being very old news...
america and the uk have unaffordable higher education...
so basically school exam standards have dropped so more kids can have the option of paying to go to university but a qualification won't mean employment because that will remain on a who you know and technical proficiency and experience catch22 level...
so that would mean more kids getting more debt and more commercial pressure to scam and slave like being lap dancers or drug dealers or whatever to pay the fees and then pay off the debt incurred...
so what's the point...?
I am entirely pro education but seriously what's the point...?
the mainstream conditioning and social divisions are so established that the only paid jobs available would be sustaining the worst aspects of the system anyway so there is no room for free thinking and dissidence except as shameful vices to be hidden from view...
so probably necessity is the mother of invention so might aswell just forget about education and just let kids have access to the internet as they teach themselves spliff rolling and reiki and other essential life skills and science stuff... ;)

Re: Troll control
Fri, October 9, 2009 - 6:42 AMFor what it's worth (which may not be much), I'm a longtime admirer of Orpheus. When the mob was last agitating for a new moderator, I seriously considered passing the torch to him. (He didn't want it.)
If you don't want to read his posts, I recommend learning the various "scroll down" features on your keyboard, touch pad, mouse, etc. They're not difficult to use. It's not as if we're burning up trees or wasting precious bandwidth. (All of the text that gets posted here is a drop in the bucket compared to the space occupied by graphics files.)
I respectfully submit that if a thread gets derailed, it is the responsibility of whoever started it to bring the discussion back on track. I liked the theme of emptycloud's Maya demise thread, but saw little interest or effort in bringing it back on topic.
In response, here's my own attempt to steer this misguided thread on "troll control" back to a worthwhile topic:

Fri, October 9, 2009 - 7:16 AMdunno why particularly but for me the mayan archaeological sites kinda "resonate" with angkor wat and stuff in southern asia...
I guess it's the ambitious stone stuff in kinda tropical zones...
and I guess it doesn't take too long for nature in the tropics to cover old stuff up...
but then after thinking about that...
the historical anomaly thing would seem to be the "modern" post industrial imperialist age...
the mysterious past is fascinating stuff but what has happened over the last 500 years and especially the last 100 is what is amazing... -

Sat, October 10, 2009 - 2:16 AMnah I think I've just moved on from where there was no place for me...
books were a phase and had their place in history but I think media has advanced...
of course before forgetting how to read and write I actually laboured pointlessly at trying to be excellent at it...
same with drawing and associated pictorial skills...
but there was no call for those skills so I drifted along into other zones...
I think those base skills are probably still useful to some empowered kiddies who might get to work them...
but for most people a kind of multimedia speed reading is what is going to be an innate skill...
of course teachers won't have a clue about these new patterns...
which is why teachers are always kinda not on the cutting edge...
and of course the establishment creates a confirmation bias...
so there are levels of complexity and confusions...
so it's difficult to disentangle the problems from the solutions...
I mean from what I can see drugs and video games are social skills these days for nature's elected breeders etc... -

Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 3:05 PMi realized just after i posted these questions to Orpheus on another unrelated thread which fell into bickering... that i should have posted it here so as to not get pulled in by trollish behavior.
-----> i'm sorry if i haven't yet gleaned this from your previous posts... however, i still find myself curious... why are you here on this discussion board? what are you getting from this discussion you engage in?
what do you really think of the fact that at least four people in this group have actively engaged you with the suggestion that your behavior is trollish and non-conducive to a wholesome online discussion board?
i see your humility on your own terms... i'm wondering if you have any on group terms?
and don't get me wrong... i totally dig that a true master is neither concerned with praise nor criticism... but... just one guy to another... what gives? -

i eXist so that i can learn to Love the outside world as much as i Love myself.
so... let me get this straight.... you think that the people who have stepped up and have spoken up... and even gone so far as to create separate threads regarding your online discussion board behavior as >>>"kinda weird folk", "whilst offering very little".
>>>>"what are you trying to say...?"
i'm not really trying to say anything... i am trying to understand you better... perhaps through a process of irony.... which may not be wholesome or helpful... we'll see... i'm trying my best and i'm interested in seeing if you have the patience to forgive my occasional wrong speech.
>>>"what are you trying to say...? "
i had a nice wheat beer with my pizza for lunch... is that what you are asking? -

Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 3:38 PMgo for it...
indeed the complainers like to complain and seem to want to group hug and don't seem to want to let others offer critical input and chat and seem to systematically resort to personal insults and accusations of trolling to justify the childishness of their undemocratic protests over bickering they generally instigate anyway and as for an example here we go again etc...
I was asking what this means "i see your humility on your own terms... i'm wondering if you have any on group terms? "
I was asking if you'd perhaps taken anything that might affect your ability to reason coherently and it seems like you've been at the booze... -
-
Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 4:00 PMi see... so instead of taking responsibility for your own behavior and the fact that it generates complaints from numerous participants on this board... you blame it on them.
>>>"I was asking what this means "i see your humility on your own terms... i'm wondering if you have any on group terms? "
i'm wondering if in addition to being humble regarding your lifestyle and subsequent outlook... are you also capable of recognizing that perhaps your behavior within the context of this group discussion board is often unwholesome and unhelpful.
-
-
Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 4:22 PMin what way am I not taking responsibility for my behaviour...?
obviously the complainers are responsible for their complaining and their irrational mob tendencies...
have you noticed the extent of the insults that the minority of complainers systematically come up with and yet nobody complains about them...?
maybe you haven't noticed because maybe you haven't read the posts...?
but do you know why people don't complain about the complainers being rude all the time...?
well maybe because we'd like to do something other than complaining all the time...?
how did you feel about the harassing of hoopes and the undemocratic "elections"...?
perhaps you didn't care because you're only interested in your own partisan notions of group hugland and can't see that anybody else matters...?
so how about letting go of that unwholesome mob mentality and allowing the discussion to flow...?
and how about pondering godwin's law and discussing how it might relate to you and your little "group"...?
-
-
Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 5:20 PM>>>"in what way am I not taking responsibility for my behavior...? "
by in no way showing any sign of regard for what other participants on this board are telling you about your behavior.... it would be one thing if it were some kind of personal issue between you and one other.... but that is not the case here... it's multiple individuals who are taking the time and energy to engage you about your behavior.
i am confident that those of us who are speaking up would rather not have to... we would rather spend our time reading and responding to a discussion board which is reasonably harmonious and fruitful. however, you as a participant on this board all too often wander into troll like behaviors as evidenced by the posts and threads dedicated to them.
>>>"how did you feel about the harassing of hoopes and the undemocratic "elections"...? "
why are you asking this? is it just your way of trying to distract the discussion away from your behavior? or do you really still need closure on this?
>>>"so how about letting go of that unwholesome mob mentality and allowing the discussion to flow...?"
so how about manning up and accept that perhaps your behavior is directly responsible for lack of flow rather than blaming it on a mob?
did you just bring up Nazis in a round about way by citing godwin's law thus proving the law?
again... behavior designed to incite distraction. -
-
Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 5:49 PMI am here taking responsibility for my behaviour...
I see nothing wrong in my behaviour...
I see your behaviour as bad...
I asked about the harassing of hoopes because it's a clear example of the behaviour of a persistent minority and thus my intention is quite simply to point out that you are only interested in yourself and who you wish to hang with and I'd of preferred it if hoopes had stayed on as moderator and the complainers had moved on to another tribe where they can be in harmony together all 4 of them and a few of their friends etc...
but I don't waste my time complaining about it until the complainers come knocking again and again...
why don't you man up about saying what you have to say and leaving others to say what they have to say instead of pretending that you are a representative of some kind of collective...?
I didn't bring up godwin's law in a round about way I brought it up directly...
so...
if you actually have any points to make related to any of the threads maybe you'd like to carry on with doing that...?
if you want a group hug go and have a group hug...
live your life...
if you want to keep on being rude then sooner or later I'm going to be rude back...
or I'll limp away wounded and sulk...
maybe... ;)

Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:06 PMof course you see nothing wrong with your behavior.. much like most trolls.
you don't waste your time complaining... instead you waste our time with this trollishness.
i am saying what i have to say... and backing it up by reminding you that many others have said the same.
i'm sorry if i am appearing to be rude... it is not my intention... rather i am trying to point out that your behavior is consistently unwholesome on this group discussion board.
i'm hopeful that at some point you'll own your behavior and do your best to be your best and not cause disharmony on this discussion board.

Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:18 PMI disagree.
Orph is not the cause of any unwholesomeness here. He is resented by some only because he drags their hidden assumptions out into the light of day, where they look like shriveled turds (or evil worms).
As for trollishness in general -- no troll can cause disharmony among people who don't feed the troll. -

Od
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:47 PMi agree that Orpheus is resented by some because he drags their hidden assumptions out into the light of day... and for that i appreciate his presence and would never suggest that he be banned or that he should leave.... however... if you take note... those that have spoken up about his behavior are not those who engage with him in the first place.... except on this issue.
those who have spoken up are like myself... who like to follow good discussions... or like emptycloud and Lana who are always decent, respectful and well intentioned and some are like Mr M. and Leslie who exhibit rather fierce frustration with his behavior across several boards.
>>>"As for trollishness in general -- no troll can cause disharmony among people who don't feed the troll. "

Sat, October 24, 2009 - 6:55 PM>>but it's just not the way it shakes out with a talented troll<<
haha.... No, that's just the way it shakes out with witless troll baiters.
If you're saying Orph is skilled at pushing people's buttons, I say that's a skill he should be thanked for (and maybe even paid for!) -- showing people where their buttons are, and how they allow them to be pushed. -

"""""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 8:39 PMwow i'm convinced your perception is entirely skewed..: roger, a poet?? gimme a break!! he's a contrived scumbag creep with 7 heads.
and no offence to Lana but she can be relatively vindictive too.. you're only being biased, davidsjelly.
if you ask me, i think this is all a matter of jealousy. and Od's observations are usually spot on.. so in conclusion, orpheus is alright by me; i appreciate his penchant for bringing the scary side out in some - attitudes and remarks that can be in my opinion far more base than orpheus' gibing.. though, from childhood experience (my dad's a bit of an arrogant wise guy but now i'm grown up it turns out he's a great guide) i can totally understand how deeply this taunts some people. but it's much healthier for the whole tribe - believe me - so long as it's valued as a valid (opportunity for) process in itself. i think there's just some people he won't let take themselves too seriously.
but ultimately, orpheus is just one man. he's entitled to his opinion, an each of you to yours~ i'd like to see a certain amount of detachment during these conceptual clashes.. and an exposition of greater character and spirit. i like to be proud of my fellow humans.

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 8:57 PMThe Orpheus mythology seems poignant...
www.hipark.austinisd.org/mytho...s.html
The greatest of all musicians was named Orpheus. He sang a wide variety of songs. Sometimes he sang high-pitched songs about the mystical creation of the universe. Other times he played low notes on his lyre as he sang of the battles of Zeus ad the Olympians gods who clashed against the Titans. Orpheus even had songs about people who were changed into flowers or birds.
But whatever he sang, the rich clear words and the silvery notes from his harp were so enchanting that they always had a magical effect on everything around him. His songs could charm even rocks and rivers as well as humans and animals. Once when Orpheus was playing his splendid music in the forest, the oak trees pulled up their roots. They followed him down the mountainside and planted themselves by the seashore where Orpheus ended his song.
When the great adventurer Jason was about to set out on his search for the Golden fleece, Orpheus was invited to go along. Orpheus proved to be of great help on the long journey. When the tempers of the heroes of the ship flared up, Orpheus would sing a peaceful song and calm those who had been arguing. Sometimes when the rowing was long and tedious, Orpheus would begin to stroke his lyre. Then time would seem to float by and the rowers would not feel tired and they listened to the soft rippling music.
The time came when Jason and the Argonauts had to sail past the dangerous isle of the Sirens. The Sirens were beautiful creature who were part human, part bird. Their songs were so wonderful that any person who heard them would become enchanted. All the sailors who heard the Sirens' songs would hurl themselves overboard and swim to the island of the Sirens'. Lured by these strange maidens the men would die upon the jagged rocks around the isle. But as the argonauts came close to the rocky island of the Sirens, Orpheus began a splendid song of his own. Jason and this crew did not listen to the Sirens and were able to sail past the island unharmed.
After the Argonauts returned to Greece, Orpheus fell in love with a beautiful woman named Eurydice. They were married and a great feast was held in their honor. On the day of their wedding, Eurydice strolled through a nearby field and talked joyfully with her friends. But as she walked through the bright green meadow, she stumbled upon a poisonous snake. The huge serpent bit her and she died.
Orpheus was heartbroken over this cruel fate. He had been married and widowed on the same day. After many weeks of mourning, he decided that he would go to Hades, the land of the dead. There he would plead for his wife.
He came to the gates that lead to the underworld, playing on his harp. No living mortals were allowed to cross into the shadowy regions of the underworld. But Orpheus' sweet dad music moved the ferry and of the dead and he gave Orpheus a ride across the dark murky river Styx. Thus Orpheus entered the purple-darkened realm of the dead. Formless ghosts and spirits gathered around him. But Orpheus was unfrightened and continued to play his slow music about his lost wife. The Spirits began to weep and the huge vultures of the underworld listened to his song. The three-headed dog that guarded the Underworld stopped growling and laid down and whimpered at the dad tine. Orpheus passed by the coal-black stallions that pulled the chariot of Pluto. The horses' ears stood straight up when they heard the enchanting song. Finally the musician came before Pluto, King of the Underworld called Hades. All the jewels and precious metals that lie in the ground rightfully belonged to Pluto's domain. Thus he and his wife Persephone, sat on the most magnificent thrones imaginable. Beside Pluto lay a magic helmet that would make anyone who wore it invisible. Here, before the King and Queen of Hades, Orpheus sang his sad, sweet song and pleaded to have his bride back. Even the rulers of the underworld were moved by his music. Eurydice was called forth and she came still limping from the wound where the serpent had bitten her. The gods of Hades agreed that Orpheus could have his wife back, but only on the condition that he did not look back until he had reached the land of the living.
Orpheus began walking up the long steep path that led to the sunlit world of men. The winding pathway was gloomy and silent. Behind his in the darkness he could hear the soft pad of Eurydice's bare feet upon the rocky steps. At last Orpheus saw sunlight coming through the opening to the overworld. he forgot himself and turned to look at his wife. There stood Eurydice, as lovely as a Spring morning with her dark wavy hair and her snowy cheeks. But as he looked Orpheus saw his lovely wife begin to fade. He desperately tried to embrace her but she only had time to whisper "Farewell" before she vanished.
Orpheus once again tried to cross the River Styx in hopes of regaining his wife. But the ferryman would not listen to Orpheus' enchanting music this time and he soul not cross the river. He sadly returned to the land of Thrace. Oh a hill in Thrace, Orpheus remained the rest of his life, singing songs that enchanted the beast and the trees of the forest.
It is said that when Orpheus finally met his death, the birds wept on the hillside. The trees shed their leaves and the nearby streams were swollen with their own tears. Orpheus' spirit went down to the Underworld and he soon found Eurydice. Although it is a shadowy existence the two walk together for eternity without fear of another separation.

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 2:29 AMThe Orpheus cult raised the notion of a single creator god — as opposed to the multitude of deities the ancient Greeks believed in — and influenced later monotheistic faiths.
"In a way, it was a precursor of Christianity," Pierris said. "Orphism believed that man's salvation depended on his knowledge of the truth."
The main elements of Orphism differed from popular ancient Greek religion in the following ways:
* by characterizing human souls as divine and immortal but doomed to live (for a period) in a "grievous circle" of successive bodily lives through metempsychosis or the transmigration of souls.
* by prescribing an ascetic way of life which, together with secret initiation rites, was supposed to guarantee not only eventual release from the "grievous circle" but also communion with god(s).
* by warning of postmortem punishment for certain transgressions committed during life.
* by being founded upon sacred writings about the origin of gods and human beings.
Evidence
Distinctively Orphic views and practices are attested as early as Herodotus, Euripides, and Plato. The recently published Derveni papyrus allows Orphic mythology to be dated back to the 4th century BC, and it is probably even older. Other inscriptions found in various parts of the Greek world testify to the early existence of a movement with the same core beliefs that were later associated with the name of Orphism.
Surviving written fragments show a number of beliefs about the after life similar to those in the "Orphic" mythology about Dionysus' death and resurrection. Bone tablets found in Olbia (5th cent. BC) carry short and enigmatic inscriptions like: "Life. Death. Life. Truth. Dio(nysus). Orphics." The function of these bone tablets is unknown.
Gold leaves found in graves from Thurii, Hipponium, Thessaly and Crete (4th cent. BC) give instructions to the dead. When he comes to Hades, he must take care not to drink of Lethe ("Forgetfulness"), but of the pool of Mnemosyne ("Memory"), and he must say to the guards:
"I am the son of Earth and Starry Heaven. I am thirsty, please give me something to drink from the fountain of Mnemosyne."
Other gold leaves say:
"Now you are dead, and now you are born on this very day, thrice blessed. Tell Persephone, that Bacchus himself has redeemed you."

Sun, October 25, 2009 - 8:55 AMAs this post continues to rise in the current it proves it was a conversation worth exploring. There are good mirrors and distorted mirrors and one might question the value or health of one confined to limited space or closed mind and heart, but it still free to be. As Mr. M. stated there is no accountability except to self in this on line venue and we are free to say what we want. We don't even have to accept the results of our behavior if we so choose. We can twist a serious science discussion into science fiction with a couple key strokes. We can get to know each other deeply or we can trivialize an other's attempts to connect. Such as referring to me as a cranky "Female" after my years of participation here as a Male. I choose to know a bit about whom I am addressing out of courtesy. I read what you offer on profile etc... Just a random example of courtesy and the lack thereof shown here. When I log on and see 50 posts since my last visit an hour or so ago I can rest assured Orpheus has nothing else to do and is flooding threads with unspecified you tube links. And I am sure the Trolls are well fed.
The bottom line is that he (and all) can do this and more without regard to the requests of other members, and some may even value it. It is also our right to register complaints and ask politely for consideration and respect. Would you respect me face to face, eye to eye, why not word to word????

Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 12:30 PMit's your choice to feel disrespected if other people are talking among themselves or to themselves and that offends you...
what I find extremely annoying/confusing is when there are endless insults and demonizing that are patently disrespectful that are persistently ignored such as this post which as it continues to rise proves that the complainers want to complain and ignore the ideas and wishes of the non-complainers etc...
I'm really annoyed with the complaining minority not having the self awareness to look at their own behaviour and focus on using a forum to address posts and their subsequent debates without trying to impose their own regime when they have nothing to say and don't want to engage in the exchanges that are happening etc...
I mean this debate seems to have been going on since forever and it got hoopes booted as moderator and now it's my turn to get roasted...
don't you think maybe it really is the complainers who need to resolve issues amongst themselves instead of bugging those who are enjoying using this forum...?

Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 12:51 PMNot everyone is enjoying the forum. I made one simple request that you not post on and litter up threads I post. But you won't. You just keep posting tons of meaningless bs. It doesnt matter if what youre posting is actually kind of cool sometimes. If it's off topic and as random as a drive by in Compton it's not cool. You can argue and repeat yourself into infinity about the subjectivity of everything. You can continue to place yourself on the convenient pedestal of "rightness" and disregard anyone & everyones every input. You think youre contributing to people evolving? Devolving more like. Into an abyss of meaningless drivel. Regardless of your own perspective you have no respect for other peoples. And regardless of whether or not some peoples perception may or may not be more or less flawed than others? You are a heartless robot with little compasion & or concept of dignity & ethics. Maybe this is your own version of anarchy. Or maybe you take the whole "do what thou will" thing to the extreme and think it's completely acceptable to bulldoze the stars. Shooting stars move too fast to slow down for the petty smaller stars. Again. It's all about perspective I guess. How are you going to replace the three minutes of my life youve wasted. By telling me I chose to allow you to I suppose. Hence the infinite broken record. Blah blah blah........ To infinity and beyond. Yay. -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 1:22 PMoh I don't disregard anybody's input...
it's not me asking people not to post and saying I don't read their posts and don't click their links...
I go there in my heartless robot way and I check it out for signs of intelligent life...
what kind of robot would I be if I didn't survey the territory...?
how would I be able to file a report...

Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 1:40 PMif you were to look in a mirror what might you see...?
it certainly wouldn't be me looking back at you... ;) -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 2:07 PMThis isnt about mirrors. It's about a simple request for you to not post on threads I post anymore or interact with me as little as possible. If not altogether. We can keep repeating ourselves forever I suppose. ( Rolls eyes ) -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 2:36 PMI'm sorry but I don't hold with discrimination...
I feel that it's quite important that everybody gets the opportunity to input with the same rules applied etc...
so if you were to ask everybody to not post on your threads then I might consider not doing so...
but really I don't want to get constrained by whatever games of not treading on the cracks in the pavement you want to invent for me...
sorry...
maybe you can ask others if they want to get into that stuff...
not my scene though... ;) -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 7:46 PMEverybody else isnt littering my threads like you do. Feel free to post whatever you want. I made a simple request that you not post on my threads. And you are refusing. Thank you so much. I was hoping we could just ignore each other as much as possible. But you really are being a troll as far as I'm concerned. -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 12:41 AMmr. m...
that's right...
I refused your request...
and I explained why...
but you don't want to see...
you are posting here without my invitation...
is my invitation required...?
are your posts here "littering"...?
so one might discern that all you are doing is bandying the term "troll" as an insult (which it is) and adding insult to injury by labelling my posts as "litter"...
so as I have already suggested perhaps some people may wish to take time out to address their self awareness issues... ;)
or...
as is apparent...
they may be incapable of doing so...
if you really want to keep offloading the insults because you feel like you have a regime that encourages that behaviour...
well then go for it...
but then maybe I'll lose my rag and try and be a bit more vocal about how you might address your self awareness issues... hahaha -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 7:22 PMThis isnt your thread orpheus. If you post a thread I won't even look at it. Much less post on it. You just keep babbling on about whatever it is you feel like. Like youre some master of wisdom. What I'm talking about has absolutely nothing to do with self awareness issues. It has to do with you annoying me. Sure, youre not a prick like roger or Bruce. But you annoy me. I've made a simple request that you refuse to grant me. That's fine. Not a damn thing I can do about it. Thank you so much for being a total asshole. -

Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 2:44 PMsee the thing is orpheus... you are not listening... you appear to not take any time for contemplation between what you read and what you write.
the "complaining minority" in fact does have alot to say and says it quite often... it is patently false to say otherwise.
now... perhaps you are referring to me when you make such blanket statements... as it is true... i don't say much here any more... i used to.. before you became active on this tribe... i said alot and was very active... however at some point along came the trolls... roger was perhaps the final straw... but he went away... and then you came along.
there have been a few times in the past months when a thread was started that interested me... i would read the first handful of posts and feel a desire to participate.... and then... you and your foil... would spoil that desire through the distraction of bickering and/or nonsense.
so perhaps it's all on me to get over my sense that a thread is spoiled and participate all the same... however, i can also approach the consistent source of this spoilage and ask him to reconsider his online discussion forum communications.
i'm hopeful that despite the apparent disregard in your written reactions here.. you actually do have the self awareness to consider both sides of the complaints you are attracting.
-
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 2:55 PMhow could I not consider it when it has been so persistent...?
my judgement on this is I have the time and inclination to participate in a casual manner that I enjoy...
I don't insult anybody except sometimes when their insults get a bit too annoying but I do work around issues in quite a broad and flippant way which I find highly appropriate in terms of encouraging a broader worldview...
what is there to contemplate...?
my considered opinion is what I have repeatedly stated that a very small minority is accusing me of being a troll and it seems like the same minority that chased hoopes out from moderating...
and of course once these complainers get started then the undecided/unhappy will leap out and hang their grievances on the scapegoat...
so why don't you get self aware and read the threads and think deeply about this and come back when you've understood your own motivations as a non-participator who likes to drop in to complain...?
then maybe instead of crying troll you might engage in discussions as they happen...
give it a whirl...? -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 3:32 PM>>>"how could I not consider it when it has been so persistent"
yeah... that's what i would think.... good.
>>>"that a very small minority is accusing me of being a troll"
no it is not a 'small minority'.... when you count up the number of people who actually participate on this tribe and the number that have complained about your behavior it seems at least a third if not more... not to mention the number of your posts which have been deleted by the moderator.
>>>"and it seems like the same minority that chased hoopes out from moderating."
again... this was hardly a minority and had nothing to do with his behavior and everything to do with the inappropriateness of him being the moderator of this tribe... and any doubts i had before about this were completely allayed when i discovered that he had actually offered the position to you.
>>>"might engage in discussions as they happen... "
but that's the thing... since this is a discussion board.. and not a chat room... some of us cannot engage as it happens... but all the same.. we'd like a chance to participate before a thread turns into dumping ground for any old thing that pops into your head cause you are bored and crave attention.
tell you what... i'll give engaging more a whirl.
do you think you might try giving less bickering a whirl? -
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 4:18 PMwell don't you see the pattern...?
this very small minority of complainers complain when their views are questioned and/or when they get called on their insulting ways...
and then some other unhappy souls join their bandwagon because it's there and they feel like joining in on some hating...
but when invited to go and have a love-in on their other tribes they refused and clamoured for hoopes to get booted...
so what is this really about...?
isn't it about a grasping partisan sense of identity...
your saying it wasn't a minority that booted hoopes is typically absurd...
the votes were almost entirely that hoopes should stay but he'd had enough harassment...
and the same thing is going on here and the moderator deleting my posts was entirely absurdly unbalanced...
they were witty responses to ludicrous insults...
I don't ever complain but at that point I eventually did...
it was patently obvious the new moderator hadn't even read the posts being deleted...
the minority bandwagon of complainers was going way too far...
as it is now...
you see it's you that's the problem...
I don't crave your attention but I have enough time to deal with it...
if you don't want my responses don't ask for them...
I really don't want your attention or your hugs...
thus far I have no expectation that you'll ever make an interesting post...
but never say never and you should go for it and I'll be pleasantly surprised if it ever happens...
maybe if you actually decide to engage the topics and people's elaborations within them you'll prove to be interesting...
I dunno...
wait and see...
but until such a change manifests...
you come across like you just crawled out of a yurt...
and just to recap...
the minority mob clamoured for hoopes to be booted more than once and more than once the vote was in his favour...
the change in moderator was not a popular vote but because the minority were so persistently hostile he quit...

Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 4:27 PMhahaha... i love it.. .you've developed your own mythology as to why you consistently get called out as being a troll.
and because of the glaring fact that you are the only one being called out by numerous participants of this board... you use the past situation with hoopes as evidence that you are not the only one and to diverge the conversation from your behavior.
yeah... roger did that too... in the reverse manner.
-
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 4:45 PMeven if all the participants on this tribe call me a troll it wouldn't make it true...
the glaring fact is that you seem to have nothing to say other than calling me a troll...
my behaviour is fine...
some people don't like it...
I often don't like their behaviour...
I don't see discussion as a popularity contest...
should we start some critical behavioural deconstruction...?
why don't you go and play with your friend roger...?
maybe he likes you...?
-
-
Re: distorted mirrors ...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 5:08 PMok then... glad we got that cleared up.
you beget the results you deserve.
tomorrow's a new day... perhaps you won't continue with trollish behavior.
otherwise... we can always come back here and discuss further.

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 7:20 PMTroll?
Many of the posts on this tribe are a perfect and transparent view of how Newage attitudes can be as egotistic, self-serving, and egoistic as any of the ones they criticize! For those who have eyes to see and ears to hear this is a great one-room schoolhouse!
orpheus a troll? PuhLEASE! I may disagree with him from time to time but I find his posts--both verbal and visual--to be almost always to-the-point, and that the usual reactions to his sometimes acerbic, always probing comments and critiques to be a joy and lesson to observe; they remind me of what Jack Kornfield and others have observed about what happened to them after years of spiritual life and discipline in the east or in ashrams and such when they re-emerged into the world, that there's world of difference between psychological maturity and spiritual growth.
I see a lot of outraged and injured big egos here. Will banishing orpheus put Humpty-Dumpty back together again? I doubt it!
And IMO to compare orpheus's comments to those of a roger or a leslie is to show considerable lack of perception!
I hope you appreciate his astute comment about "your travels in asia have afforded you a deep insight into the human psyche... ;)"! -

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 11:39 AMjeez...
I tried highschool teacher training and dropped out after 2 terms...
I couldn't handle the schools scenes at all...
I had no grounding to be able to deal with the stress...
all the teachers seemed like caricatures from planet nutjob...
them and the bureaucrats seemed to be on another planet/dimension...
I definitely identified more with the inner city kiddies except they were hyper and I'd expect them to be self directing...
even in postgrad I was kinda shocked at how reluctant people are to self direct...
my own theory was that the whole classroom thing is totally unnatural...
which isn't necessarily a bad thing when you consider natural...
but I think maybe child labour as in learning applied skills and then self directed vocational learning would have suited me better...
smaller groups and less politics...
35 years of teaching is sick...
how many kids do you see go by in that time with the classes at like 30 plus every 2 hours etc...
just by percentages how many kids go to prison and this and that...
totally crazy...
I'm a bit soppy so the tragic stuff just always breaks my heart... hahaha

the man clealry is in need special attention, he shows signs of deep phychosis (read again all his latest posts), he is a product of modern society, broke, unemployed, and with seemingly no future ... white trash
yet, i have no objection of him being adopted here by a few that wish to hug/love/care for him .... i find that truly a honorable act .... but i am not in that group ...
banning him will not solve anything, simply bc he will come again and again, prob with a worst attitude, besides we all here should have the same option to post or not .... as i said once ... is just like being in a beautiful beach with a few mosquitos, nothing is ever going to be perfectly to our own personal satisfactions

Kids like that ("bright but not academic" some other teachers sniffed) were my favorite. After my first couple years teaching I got tired of eating in the teachers lunch room, listening to all the teachers bitching about students, and ate in my classroom. Eventually there were as many of these kids hanging out and eating lunch there as were in any one of the five classes a day I taught.

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 1:49 PMwell the thing is apparently oba does a lot of pot...
which is nice...
but it does have some side effects...
it can have a negative effect on stuff like literacy and numeracy and it's also fairly well established now that it can cause and/or exasperate psychosis...
so I'd guess there is a fairly pronounced corelate between cannabis use and the spaceship varieties of spirituality etc...
but still it can be a lovely little mood enhancer and I certainly wish I had a kilo or 3 of medicinal bud I could lean on... hahaha -

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 2:23 PMwell that's a bit of a serious misinterpretation...
elo made a reactive response to a question and you say that's a cruel joke...?
mr. m has been totally offensive so I turn it back on him a little and it's me to blame...?
and asking leslie to explain his thoughts without the inevitable ton of abuse is my fault...?
yup there's some folk who really do seem to have some perceptual issues going on and it wouldn't surprise me if drugs might be one of the common factors...

Tue, October 27, 2009 - 12:03 AMI don't think Orpheus is a troll either, I actually like his video art (when he's making it rather than chain-linking youtube videos) although he has done two things I can never ever forgive him for in a million years...
1. On May 14, 2006 at 2:41pm central time, Orpheus Rick-Rolled me (YOU BASTARD!!!!!)
2. Just moments ago, he made me feel empathy for Mr. M!!
(holds fists to sky) KAAAAAAAAAAHN!!!!!!!!!! KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!!!!!!!!!!!! -
-
Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 1:08 AMwell guys I have found some common denominators for the "troll callers"...
firstly they are using the term troll instead of dealing with points raised in any given topic....
presumably because they think that gives them carte blanche to be mindless and insulting which seems to be their standard practice anyway...
secondly drugs...
everybody likes/needs drugs it seems as much as the world needs pretty girls but they don't make people smarter...
thirdly fascism...
they seem incapable of reason and tolerance and get into childish tantrums and trying to gang up and lay down the law with persistent hating then pretend their squalling is democratic when they override the wishes of the majority which is kinda the last resort of the scoundrel and would equate to lynch mobs in the meatsphere...
so I would appreciate if the volk refrained from calling me a troll and also equating me to the troll callers...
because I reply to their insults and accusations is what makes me reasonable in the face of their insistent ignorance and does not make me like them...
as has been suggested in the past on numerous occasions they are free to post where they wish and it is only them that insist on getting rid of moderators and restricting the freedom of people to discuss here whilst they do not discuss and just post insults etc...
so run along and go and bond together...
I truly deeply encourage you all to develop your heartfelt commonalities in a white rasta land thread...
you can entertain eachother endlessly with your insults and intellectual constraints in your own thread...
go and play your mindless hateful games in the warzone and leave peaceable tubbies to their sunny custards and bunnies...

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 9:58 AMpp: "...it is only them that insist on getting rid of moderators..."
>>> I think you're generalizing and confusing different groups of people.
Anyway, speaking for myself, I do not care about converting people to my own perspectives,
at least not online people from God knows where that I don't have to deal with in my daily life.
...so I guess I'm merely here to:
- be informed & entertained by this strange 2012 phenomenon and analyze it with others,
- watch it unravel in the years to come
- *safely* bounce ideas and perspectives off of 'strangers',
- test and tweak my beliefs and world view,
- improve my debating etiquette,
- improve my vocabulary
- improve my ability to convey what I think/believe/envision into language
- to improve my writing skills and fluency in English.
This board enables all of that and more, but the Tribe.net platform is rather limited in ignore/hide features that could enable members to filter threads to their own desire, without deleting posts. A moderator of a tribe also has limited and extremely drastic tools so the best way to try to keep this tribe worth being active in is to discourage trolls by ignoring them. This is easy to do with new unknown 'troll' members, and the fact that there's even a conversation with Orpheus is kind of an indicator that he doesn't fit the bill of the typical troll, so to me, the lesson in this thread is about generalizations and ad hominem debate tactics.

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 10:59 PMWhat is rick rolled?
I dont really need empathy. But thanks. I'll probably regret asking. But how so Beeotch? : ) Nevermind. I'm disgusted by it all really. With negative confrontational bullshit in the guise of attempting to help illuminate others. Excuses for peoples own bs and passing off as antecdotes for others shortcomings and faults. And the lightening strikes again. -
-
Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 11:16 PMIt is empathy for that very reason M, knowing the punishment-reward cycle of a very creative nutcase, and not being allowed off the rollercoaster. I've already quit half a dozen tribes because of people too clever to be trolls but too damaged to be civil, so I draw the line here, and with him...
as for being rick-rolled, it's like anal prison rape, via the internet... -
-
Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 11:38 PMI will probably unjoin this tribe again actually. I dont dig the constant bullshit. Just dont need it. I'd love to discuss this and that with others. But endless negativity I'm just sick of. And a lot of people dont see themselves as contributing to it. And some think their negative contribution is somehow productive. Like if I were to think "Okay. I will be a total asshole. And when people object I will tell them it's for their own good. And when they object to that I will tell them all the other shit small minded mother fuckers be telling people. It's not a fucking competition. If youre at a party at someones house, are you going to walk around acting like this? Hell to the no. You'd be asked to leave. And if you kept pushing my buttons and remained in my face for too long, if you wouldnt let it go or walk away or let me then I'd probably punch you in the face or find some way to shut you the fuck up and get you the hell out of my face. -

Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 7:03 AMThis thread seemed a set-up for this kind of roller coaster! It's topic was begging for it, and mostly I've enjoyed the humor, testiness, shock and awe.
There are several more serious and great discussions going on regularly on the other threads here, so don't despair, and definitely don't leave the tribe! If this thread is too toxic, just leave it, or leave it alone! -
-
Re: """""""What, drawn and talk of peace?"""""""
Wed, October 28, 2009 - 9:50 AMAs originator, I am astounded that my simple request for some netiquette has produced a 250 + post roller coaster. My usual informative and (to me) interesting threads commonly go unanswered and fall quickly off the current page ignored. For the record, I did have the mods support after opening this can of worms and it gave everyone a chance to vent. I did not intend it to be a dog pile on Orph. and am dismayed by the slamming and pissing...especially when it spilled over on Lana, whom I deeply respect for her efforts of loving ALL. Those comments just rude and crude. Now we can see this issue as a festering volcano just awaiting the next eruption. I don't figure it changed anyone's adopted behavioral habits. I guess a request for topic respect will always be slammed as whining by some and sadly this tribe will probably never attain the true love of Oneness and co operation. Be that as it may, 2012 tribe has great value. I still love this tribe and those who participate here.
May we all enjoy it beyond the soon to arrive changes being planned by Cisco and their scheme to convert us to their Eos network, herding us to their profit making content. May we survive the upcoming tsunami.................love, e -

Wed, October 28, 2009 - 11:17 PM<<i only saw Miss Tantric post before your post ....>>
I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me
Fingertips have memories
And I can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see
Who salutes, but no-one ever does
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot, cos I'm in hell
Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a TV
Put me in the hospital for nerves and then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs, now I'm an amputee
God damn you
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot, cos I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to look so well
I want to publish scenes
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue, it doesn't hurt it feels fine
But you don't look so fine
I'd like to turn off time
To kill my mind
To kill my mind
Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm running underground with the moles
Digging in holes
Hear the voices in my head, I swear to god it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored, then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot, cos I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to look this well -

Thu, November 26, 2009 - 6:23 AM<< Trolls are good for one thing y'all. "FOR ME TO POOP ON!!!" : ) >>
"Loneliness is more than just the feeling of wanting company or wanting to do something with another person. Loneliness is a feeling of being cut off, disconnected, and/or alienated from other people, so that it feels difficult or even impossible to have any form of meaningful human contact. Lonely people often feel empty or hollow inside. Feelings of separation or isolation from the world are common amongst those that are lonely"

Re: Od
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 12:01 AMso...
emptycloud was frustrated by "thread hiacking" which meant that people chatted on her thread whilst she was asleep because of time shifts and she didn't like what she saw when she woke up...
lana doesn't like my posts or my links and finds them depressing...
many people don't like my posts and say they don't read them or click the links...
Mr M and Leslie are systematically rude and get "fiercely frustrated" when called on it...
and oba seems to like being persistently gratuitously rude and posting images of dead teletubbies...
and davidsjelly...?
well he seems to be somebody who likes to "follow good discussions" that are decent respectful and well intentioned and then getting bored as he might not have anything to add he resorts to what he knows he can do which is complaining...
and perhaps he gets some kinda weird kick out of trying to represent vague minority groups in their dubious agendas...
the naughty children who feel they absolutely must run the playground and usurp the childminder and exterminate all resistance...
praise be to the mighty lords of thule... hahaha -

Sat, October 24, 2009 - 4:03 PM>>>"I was asking if you'd perhaps taken anything that might affect your ability to reason coherently and it seems like you've been at the booze..."
sorta like... are you still beating your wife?
yeah... i've noticed you use this baiting and suggestive question often when confronted.
you remind me so much of Roger.. you ever come across him on other boards? he doesn't come around here so much any more... he was trollish too... though.. better poetry i think. -
-
Re: Op
Sat, October 24, 2009 - 4:33 PMoh you notice stuff...
well done...
are you still beating your wife...?
is an example of a logical fallacy in the form of a trick question...
whereas if you are still beating your wife - then it's a question that points at some "issues" you might want to address with therapy...
so if you are drinking and indulging in some "new age policeman trolling" and somebody asks you if you are "sober" for example...
would that be a logical fallacy and a trick question or a real question that might point at some "issues" you might need help with...?

Re: Troll control
Sat, October 10, 2009 - 12:59 AMglady :D it is however in its embryonic stage.. i really haven't given it much more thought since it struck me. so i'll take it very slow..
i must get to the kitchen and feed my family some napolitana now but i'll muse over it and post something some time in the near future.

Re: Troll control
Sat, October 10, 2009 - 1:14 AMsplit pea soup.....that was from so long ago! you are a miss smartie now aren't you?...... :)
nice.....yeah, i mostly advise people to eat some (i usually just do organic Amy's from a can) with plenty of butter or ghee...after lots of traveling or especially flying......ayurvedically it's said to "calm the doshas".....meaning, it takes the edge off the nerves......but yeah, i freaking love it too! just had some the other night after yoga on the cliffs and the weather turning chilly here all the sudden now that it's fall......yum! -

Re: Troll control
Sat, October 10, 2009 - 1:16 PM>>you put the butter or ghee in the soup?
oh yeah! ghee is better but butter will do....it's not like you're gonna eat it every day 3x a day so don't worry about getting a big butt lol!
i put about a tablespoon of ghee, a splash of Bragg's liquid amino's, a dash of nutritional yeast, and maybe even a pinch of cayenne on super cold days....it is like yummy medicine for the body and soul.....it's my "chicken soup" -
