I haven't read the article, and I won't. There is nothing I can gain from it. I see how the media operates, and I don't need more proof.

Daniel is doing a fabulous job of moving through the deeply-entrenched global paradigm into expanded awareness, and taking us with him. It is hard as hell to do in private, let alone under the scrutiny of others.
How about we give the guy some credit--hell, even a hand--so that we can all get on with being the exquisite creatures we were meant to be.

If I AM that I AM, Daniel can be a purple polka-dotted prophet if he wants to be. This is the time we have all been waiting for, and we each possess the ability to channel from higher realms if we choose to. We are all facets of the same infinite gem.

indeed, i do try to remain a modest messenger, and a most humble prophet.

I have learned the hard way the truth of what Yogananda said, that life is a continual choice between humility and humiliation. I do my best to choose humility.

..."At some point in Carlos Castaneda's books, he askes Don Juan what he was like as a child, and Don Juan says, 'I have no personal history,'" Pinchbeck says with a strange half grin. "I feel that way too, pretty much. Just trying to stay open."

I just saw this thread and thought i would pop up for a moment. The Rolling Stone experience, now that it is over, was an instructive and fascinating one. Actually I was very lucky that it came out in the same time frame as Burning Man, as it was very helpful to go to the burn and release any negative feelings around the article, among a community that seems closer to "my" community than any other.

There seems to be a natural process that the mass media goes through with any figure who challenges the status quo in some way that can't be simply ignored. Part of that process is character assassination, mischaracterization, deliberate distortion, etc. It is interesting that Vanessa references my mother's experience with Kerouac at great length - except for the NY Times Review that proclaimed On the Road a masterpiece, he was generally savaged in the press, as were the beat generation in general. I wrote in "2012" how the media acts as an "immune response task force" seeking to inoculate new patterns of incoming information - the Rolling Stone piece is a perfect example of this process.

I also felt there was a certain guilt-riddled incoherence to the piece, a sense of confusion as to why they were devoting space to me only to hatchet me and misrepresent my ideas.

What is very interesting, as an individual person undergoing this process as well as witnessing reactions to it, is how quickly one gets converted from a normal person (someone who is "one of us") to a screen for the projection of the larger collective's hostilities and envies - to an "other" who somehow is no longer considered to have feelings in the same way. I will forever insist (and told Vanessa this over and over again) that I am not a "guru" in any way, just someone who is using the skill set that I have to try to understand what is going on and contribute to the process as best as I can.

Anyway I chose to live in NYC in order to fight the media demon directly, so I do feel this is ultimately a blow in my favor.

if you loved the original, then you will be disappointed, just a warning. there is too many left out pieces that make the wicker man what it is both symbolically and in the manifest world. they skip over the details completely and pretty much reduce its value, unfortunately. nick is no chris lee... :)

saw the wicker man-- its not a remake of the oldie but goody (and more appropriate, and boy, some how it does pertain to this situation at hand, but i can't quite wrap my words around it at the mo...) but another version of the wicker man story in general... i'm finding that the general public may not readily understand the masterpiece in its true sense.

i shall now read this: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/11217201/daniel_pinchbeck_and_the_new_psychedelic_elite
and hopefully have something to contribute! many pieces... for sure!

I read the article, and I'm afraid they weren't really very flattering. They even went back and found some x girlfriends with nasty things to say. It kinda made me feel bad for the guy. And the "buck teeth" thing was just a little over the top. BTW little fish, I got mine at the library :)

perhaps if you read the article, you might, just might, possibly find a faint (or even not so) resemblence to one of his characters tho.

yes, i bought a copy even tho i don't give a shit about rolling stones either.
(unless it's the let it bleed album).
to be honest, it was worth the 3.95,
as another inconvenient truth is unfortunately revealed,
tho as usual it's been lurking underground,
only to be revealed in times of heat and humidity.

(tho the mag was not worth the tree tho - i'm sorry mother for i have sinned again)

i'd be glad to give you my copy if u're intrigued despite yourself,
as long as you promise to share to another in kind.
consider it a petty selfish act of repentence to mama.

could send it brooklyn air mail.

I have not read the article. I don't care about Rolling Stone. But I did feel sad for Pinchbeck reading the following line in his Amazon Blog:

<<I learnt, to my surprise, that I have “buck teeth,” and some undefined similarity to Austin Powers.>>

I live in NY and having accidentally danced with Pinchbeck (Burner party, had never heard of the guy at the time) and recently passed Mike Meyers at Washington Square, I can tell you there is no resemblance whatsoever.

I read the article, and enjoyed it, but I thought that the magazine primarily focused on the psychedelic part. Maybe I just haven't read enough of Pinchbeck's work (considering I didn't even know that psychedelics were part of his philosophy). However I was glad to see that they mentioned that Burning Man is the forefront of the social movement, even if RS did describe it as a "pagan ritual."

"I stopped by the Rolling Stone office today and picked up an advanced copy of the new issue (Sept 7, 2006), which contains a substantial feature on me, titled 'Daniel Pinchbeck and the New Psychedelic Elite', by Vanessa Grigoriades. It will be hitting the newsstands in a few short hours.
My reaction to this article is extremely mixed. For the most part, I am happy that it has seen the light of day, as it is no doubt going to feed discussion around shamanism, psychedelics, my books, the concept of a global consciousness shift as we approach the year 2012, etcetera. From my perspective, the growing awareness of this alternative paradigm is, in itself, part of the prophecy – a necessary step in the process of bringing a new world into manifestation.
I find myself in a peculiarly bittersweet relationship to fame, worldly success, etc., as part of the concept I am promoting is of a shift in consciousness that will be so swift and so profound, when it arrives, that it will annul our current categories and conventional reward systems. As I noted in '2012,' I sometimes feel like I am communicating 'backwards' from this future state of 'time freedom,' and it is a peculiarly uncanny sensation. From that impersonal perspective, I am simply watching a process unfold in linear time – the process of the accelerated evolution of consciousness. As a messenger or prophet (certainly not a guru), I am simply sending out a signal to be picked up by those who are ready to receive it."
